Organization Overview

Investing in couragous girls, who will change the world.

Emerge is a charitable organization that supports Sri Lankan children, aged 10-18, who have been placed in state care while they courageously testify in court against abuse or the threat of abuse. With the support of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services in Sri Lanka, Emerge partners with shelters to transform them into trauma-sensitive learning spaces where participants get the opportunity to develop the tools for self-sufficiency through a comprehensive, culturally sensitive, curriculum that combines Life Skills, Reproductive Health and Group Therapy.

Our work is a multi-faceted reintegration support tool that empowers participants transitioning from from state care to society as adults.

Programming like ours can be life-changing for a survivor who survived trauma, isolation and stigma to rebuild a life of strength, independence and resilience.

  • Our shelter programme for under 18 year old survivors is now back to in-person workshops at 02 shelters in Colombo with +45 participants

  • In 2022 our online shelter programme reached 300 participants across 05 Provinces in Sri Lanka

  • Emerge conducted Capacity Building, Sensitization, and Mental Health workshops for 21 Probation Officers and 112 shelter care workers in Uva Province in 2023

  • The team is building a strong plan to re-launch the Emerge Centre for Reintegration next year while still continuing to support alumni through crisis situations, and educational, employment, and health, needs
