What is Mental Health?

Mental health includes how we feel, think and act, how we manage stress and adapt to various environmental factors. 

 

There are 3 main components of mental health ;

 

  • Emotional wellbeing- It is your ability to cope with both positive and negative emotions, which includes your awareness of them, stress management techniques and how resilient we are

  • Social wellbeing - Ability to form meaningful relationships with people and connect

  • Psychological well-being - A feeling of purpose and meaning in life, personal growth and development and self-acceptance

What does "good" mental health look like?

​

Good mental health does not only mean having no mental health disorder. It means having a balanced , functional life in which in an individual can carry of activities of daily living, interact with people and deal with stress in a healthy manner, contribute to community and realize your potential.


Good mental health checklist

  • Balanced self esteem

  • You set goals 

  • You feel good about yourself

  • You don't always blame yourself

  • You listen to other opinions and communicate when needed
