WealthTrust Securities PLC Backs Survivors Through LKR 1.5 Million Donation to Emerge Lanka Foundation
Colombo, Sri Lanka - For many young survivors aging out of institutional care in Sri Lanka, turning 18 doesn’t mean freedom, it means losing the only safety net they’ve ever known. When a child reports sexual abuse, they are often placed in government protective care until their court case is complete - a process that can take years - or until they turn 18 and are legally considered adults.
The Emerge Centre for Reintegration was created to change that reality and to provide critical support as they step into independent adulthood.
WealthTrust Securities PLC (WTSL), one of Sri Lanka’s largest-capitalized non-bank Primary Dealers, has donated LKR 1.5 million to Emerge Lanka Foundation to sustain this essential work. The first installment has already been disbursed, with the second scheduled for April 2026.
This contribution covers the full annual cost of rent, water, and electricity for the Emerge Centre for Reitnegrationm a trauma-sensitive, survivor-centric residential programme designed for teen girls aging out of state-mandated care after experiencing sexual abuse. By securing the Centre’s operational stability for a full year, WealthTrust Securities ensures that survivors continue to access a safe, consistent, and transformative environment as they prepare for independent adulthood.
During the funded year, three batches of programme participants will take part in Emerge’s reintegration curriculum, which centres their agency, well-being, and potential. The programme includes life skills, digital literacy, financial literacy, mental health support, and practical preparation for independent living. Support from partners like WealthTrust strengthens participants' paths forward and affirms the belief that every survivor deserves the opportunity to shape her own future with confidence and dignity.
A statement from WealthTrust Securities PLC noted, “At WealthTrust Securities PLC , we believe that true progress is measured not only by financial growth, but by the positive change we create within our community. Guided by this belief, we are honored to support the Emerge Lanka Foundation by covering their annual rent, electricity, and water expenses—enabling them to continue their remarkable work, where every survivor has the opportunity to heal, grow, and shine.”
Alia Whitney-Johnson, Founder of Emerge Lanka Foundation, added, “At Emerge, we see every day how much strength it takes for survivors to step into independent adulthood after years in institutional care. Stable, trauma-sensitive spaces are essential during this life-changing transition. We are grateful to partners like WealthTrust Securities who choose to invest in that stability so that survivors can focus on shaping their futures with confidence, dignity, and the support they deserve.”
Founded in 2005, Emerge Lanka Foundation works in partnership with the Department of Probation and Child Care Services and collaborates with shelters that house children in state-mandated protective care. Emerge exclusively partners with girls and young women who have experienced—or are at risk of—sexual abuse or related trauma, supporting them as they strengthen skills, build community, and transition to independence, while also advocating for stronger nationwide systems of care and prevention. With shareholder reserves exceeding LKR 6.6 billion, WealthTrust Securities continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a more equitable and resilient Sri Lanka, not only through trusted financial stewardship, but through compassion-driven partnerships that invest in the potential of the next generation of survivors and changemakers.
